[There's a little wryness to his smile at that. Yeah! Maturity is relative. It's fine. He's 90 in soul and mind.]

Ah, is that so? You may struggle a little, then... [Though he says it with a mostly teasing air.] They'll grow on you, though, I feel.

[HE'S RIGHT TO TBH!!! also you really did this

He just smiles, though! It is good... to be talking to a fellow teacher-minded person. It's the teacher bond...]

I'll certainly do my best not to. I have to return to Nadia, after all. [Canned audience laughter.] But... I suppose the biggest note I can give is to encourage their ability to critically think. To observe the world around them and weigh their options carefully, and to understand what moving forward with their own convictions look like. It's one of the best skills that you can teach a child. [A beat.] If you're working with very young ones, be prepared for them to reach for your eyes often, too.

[IT'S THE BLUE EYES... KIDS LOVE POKING THEM.]

You can find a way to incorporate that lesson into anything, my dear.

[Combat! Math! Science! The arts! Making puppets out of paper lunch bags! It's all about the creativity... Enjoy the many new questions.]

Ah, no particular story. The young ones enjoy getting their little fingers and hands everywhere they oughtn't, and they appear especially attracted to brightly colored things.

[STOP. MY ROOM.]

Oh, Nadia was such a darling child from the moment she was born. She would never do that.

[BUT OTHER CHILDREN ARE GREMLINS. Not his perfect angel darling girl Nadia, though.]

She's my little sister, yes. [HE'S NOT DADDY.] Though I don't recall mentioning her to you before?

[this could just be my, aki's, bad memory]

[HELP NOT MEGUMI.]

Perhaps he's in the rebellious phase? Most children go through it at some point. How young is he...

[HE REALLY IS. GOJO!!!!!]

...When they're that young, it's less of a rebellious phase and more the simple fact that children are often precocious, I feel?

[ME AKI IN TEARS but this is probably less strange in a country where people are dead by 23 and most kids are orphans.]

Hm... If he's used to caring for himself, he may just be acting out because he doesn't like the intrusion of another person in a life he felt he was managing well enough alone?

[THIS IS A STUNNING STATEMENT FOR HIM TO HEAR WITH HIS OWN TWO EARS.]

...If he's dealing with the loss of his parents... then it's possible that he's simply processing through grief and the notion of being alone in the world at a young age... It makes a good deal of sense that he would reject someone else attempting to step in.

[ESPECIALLY IF THEY DO IT LIKE THIS.]

[THAT IS A BIG PIECE OF MISSING CONTEXT BUT IT'S FINE............]

It sounds like it could still be some sort of trauma response, to me... If he'd been abandoned by his father before his father had died, he's already undergone more than most people would experience by five.
faithkept: (why did you dress our pleasure)

[personal profile] faithkept 2024-07-06 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a good start, I think. You're giving him the choice and putting even a small amount of control back into his hands. Whether or not he decides to take you up on it will ultimately rest with him.

[HE WILL NOT.]

[The question seems to catch him off his guard a bit, and he also has no idea how to answer it.]

...In the sense that many die quite early in their child's life, I suppose. Only Reliver couples get to spend significant time with theirs.

I suppose that's certainly a way of looking at it...

[A FUNKY WAY but Gojo is funky so it suits.]

Nadia is twelve, this year.
